Love unto death

Broadcasted

Claudine is looking for love.

Synopsis

Claudine is looking for love. At 45, she is still single, a master of ceremonies in a crematorium and a majorette with the “Pekettes”.

Description

The tone is set from the very first moments of the film with a photograph of Jeannine and her dog, Princesse, on her coffin in the morgue. The funeral home setting, conducive to derision and irreverence, allows the director to address essential existential questions such as life, love, and death. Humor dominates the beginning of the film before concluding in tragedy.

Singer in the electro-trash band Monique Sonique and a regular on the stages of Brussels theaters (Tuning by Boris Prager, Cendrillon ce macho by Sébastien Ministru) or on the big screen (Chiennes de vies (2022), Krump (2021), L’Employée du mois (2020),), Ingrid Heiderscheidt wrote and directed Amour à mort, playing the lead role of Claudine. She stars alongside Muriel Bersy. The majorettes Les Pekettes and several members of a brass band also appear in a more touching than expected finale set to the original music of Jef Mercelis.

Through a playful and surreal mise-en-scène, the film masterfully evokes the ephemeral nature of human life. The director invites us to reflect on the fleeting nature of time, on the necessity of Seize every opportunity and value every relationship. By highlighting the absurdity of life, but also the beauty of friendship, the film eloquently reminds us that life, like an ephemeral work of art, deserves to be celebrated and lived intensely.
